Celebrate the Celtic New Year Celtic culture comes alive at the Ceili of the Valley’s second annual Samhain Celtic New Year Festival, which features a day of hands-on experience 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Grant Community School, 725 Market St. NE. Honoring the seven Celtic Nations (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, Galicia and Isle of Man), the event is a day of immersive live music, speakers, workshops and educational hands-on activities that are fun for the whole community. Learn about the Celtic roots of Halloween. See demonstrations of art, cooking and dance. Take part in a workshop for fiddle, whistle, uilleann pipes and bodhran. Listen…

We chatted with Brooke Jackson-Glidden of the Statesman Journal yesterday who is wrote a piece up about the inaugural Samhain Celtic New Year Festival. We are excited to see it in print next week, but here’s a preview: Celebrate Celtic heritage at Samhain festival Oct. 22 (click above to read the full story) Halloween, before horror movies and trick-or-treating became the norm, came from a Celtic celebration known as Samhain (pronounced sow-in), also known as the “feast of the dead.” The holiday served as a New Year celebration, and the folks from the Ceili of the Valley Society want to introduce the tradition to Salem.
